Jessica was born in Dallas on July 10th 1980 to Joe and Tina. Her dad is a psychologist and minister at a Baptist church in Texas. She attended J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas and is a graduate of Richardson North Junior High in Richardson, Texas.

Constantly listening to the radio while growing up, she had great admiration for Brian McKnight. Jessica first developed her singing skills in the local Baptist church When Jessica was 12 she auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club. Jessica’s talents and presence took her all the way to the finals, where she admittedly freaked out during her last audition.

The next year while attending church camp, Jessica, delivered an a cappella version of Amazing Grace for one of the camp’s guest speakers, who was in the process of launching a gospel music label. Jessica signed to the label and worked on an album for three years during which time the small label folded.

That did not undermine her confidence and she hit the Christian Youth Conference circuit, singing her inspirational and upbeat odes to audiences of upwards of 20,000. Jessica and her father hit the road, and Jessica sang to delighted crowds throughout the country.

Her success went beyond the Christian community and made its way to the ears of pop music lovers. And it was only a matter of time before the major labels expressed interest.

Already an established star in the Christian music world, where she often appeared on bills with Kirk Franklin, God’s Property and Ce Ce Winans, Jessica’s next challenge came in taking her faith and spectacular voice to a wider audience.

Signing with Columbia Records for the release of Sweet Kisses, Simpson proved to be a bright light in today’s star studded circuit. After touring with 98 degrees, her popularity soared even higher, and even found a boyfriend in the group’s Nick Lachey. She idolizes Mariah Carey. For her first single Jessica even worked with producer Louis Biancanella, who previously worked with Mariah Carey on her albums.

She is genuine in her beliefs about life and her professional goals. This is exactly what impressed Tommy Mottola, CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, when they met for the first time to discuss a possible association.

Simpson sings the kind of songs and portrays the image of a star that you won’t have to fear your pre-teen daughter listening to. One of the songs that caught fan’s attention was Where You Are, a duet with her boyfriend Nick Lachey. The song isn’t about their relationship but anyone who has experienced a loss that has caused pain. Heart of Innocence, a song that she co-wrote on the album, is dedicated to her future husband for whom she practices abstinence.
