To me, what makes him (and others like him like the Google duo, Yahoo duo, Ellison, Allen etc) special is he showed that IT is the top industry in the world, even more so than brick and mortar businesses like petroleum, construction, travel, hotel, finance etc etc etc. Add the fact that software can be pirated.
