Trojan Alert: Google Toolbar For Download?

Have you been getting mails lately regarding a new version of Google Toolbar for download? Beware of the mail, because lately there has been a virus writer who wrote a Trojan program and made it looks like a Google Toolbar.

Spam messages that originate from the Trojan are being circulated and the messages contain an offer to download the latest version of Google Toolbar with the link provided. The link will provide the user with a website which was designed to look exactly alike the real Google website. An option to download the toolbar for the user’s browser will then be provided. But this is where it gets dangerous. The moment the “Toolbar” is downloaded, the Trojan will be activated, turning the user’s computer into a mail spamming machine and also providing a back door for the hacker to access the user’s computer.

What is the lesson here? Two things; The first is to never trust a link provided by spam mail or mails of unknown origin. And the second one is; Even if you know where it comes from, don’t download things unless you are sure of the source.
